Just an alert that as in past years, the City of Ypsilanti Non-Motorized Advisory Committee will sponsor of a "Ghost Bikes" display in Ypsilanti during Bike-Bus-Walk Week (www.bbwypsi.org) in our City from May 14th through the 21st to encourage safe bicycling in the City.
The Ghost Bikes are non-serviceable bicycles (all useful parts stripped off) painted white that are meant to urge that both motorists and bicyclists practice safe riding/driving and share the road. The bikes will be on display for exactly one week and are chained to utility poles with cable locks. They also have signs on them that state, "A cyclist was struck near this spot - please share the road". For a previous year’s news story on the display visit http://www.annarbor.com/news/ghost-bikes-display-in-ypsilanti-aims-to-raise-awareness/.
The Ghost Bikes will be set up on Sunday, May 14th, and promptly be taken away on Sunday May 21st (I would be setting up and taking down the bikes). Bikes will be set up at the southwest corner of East Cross Street and Prospect and at the southeast corner of Cross and College Place.
