PRESS RELEASE: City of Ypsilanti was awarded a Community Awards from Smart City Connect

Press Release

Ypsilanti, January 26, 2018.  The City of Ypsilanti was awarded a Community Awards from Smart City Connect under the Community Award category. Smart City honors the 50 most transformative smart projects each year. Community awardees exemplify a groundswell of support from leaders and community members within a municipality, in connection with the project.

In partnership with Solar Ypsi, a dozen volunteers installed 176 285W SolarWorld solar panels, power optimizers, and racking on the roof of the Ypsilanti Fire Station. A professional solar contractor was hired to wire the power from the panels to three SolarEdge 14.4kW inverters and to the Fire Station’s electrical system. This project made the fire station 71% solar powered and provides substantial energy saving. Raising $20,000 will allow our eager volunteers to climb back on the fire station roof to add 50 additional solar panels to make the building 100% solar powered.
