The City of Ypsilanti

The City of Ypsilanti (ip-s'-ln-t) was incorporated as a village in 1832 and as a city in 1858.  The incorporated area of the city is 4.2 square miles.  As of the 2010 US Census, the City of Ypsilanti's population is 19,435.

The city’s downtown has recently developed loft apartments along Michigan Avenue, several new restaurants, and a new public library. Ypsilanti is also home to Eastern Michigan University, and is in close proximity to The University of Michigan, and two major hospitals. Residents and visitors enjoy such annual events as The Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, The Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival, The Orphan Car Show, and Elvisfest.
