Ypsi awarded with 3 brownfield grants by EPA!

The City of Ypsilanti has been awarded three (3) hazardous substances cleanup grants at $200,000 each ($600,000 total) to address the properties on East Michigan Ave. and South River St. in the Water Street redevelopment project area. We are the only community in Michigan to receive three grants in one round of funding! This is quite an accomplishment for the City. Please read the article about other Michigan municipality's grant awards in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) news release.

The City of Ypsilanti applied for grant funding from the EPA, to remove some of the remaining environmental contamination in the Water Street redevelopment project area. The City will use the funding to remediate some of the remaining contamination on the site, including the demolition of buildings located atop contaminated soil.

Thank you for all of your public comments and support during this process. This grant is a step towards the redevelopment of Water Street.
