There are twenty-three fire fighters in the City of Ypsilanti Fire Department, including the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal, that serve the City population of approximately 23,000 and approximately 25,000 Eastern Michigan University students and faculty.
Our department provides the following response or assistance for:

Emergency fire, rescue and medical calls

Fire prevention and safety classes

Dangerous and abandoned building inspections

Hazardous materials response and training

Drug raids and fire/arson investigations

Training of various City/EMU personnel
The Fire Department represents the City of Ypsilanti on various boards and commissions, i.e. Homeland Security Task Force of Washtenaw County, Washtenaw County Hazardous Materials Response Authority, Local Emergency Planning Council as well as many other County and State associations.
