2008-2012 Parks and Recreation Master Plan

The City of Ypsilanti's Draft 2008-2012 Parks and Recreation Master Plan is now available for public review and comment.  Please see below for details.

The Recreation Commission and Planning & Development Department have been working on the plan since mid-2007.  This 5-year planning process is required by the State of Michigan for the City to maintain its eligibility for various recreation-related grants.  Additionally, the planning process helps city staff and the Recreation Commission inventory and prioritize the parks and recreation system, helping the city to identify and engage community partners.

Public review process
The Recreation Commission will be holding a public hearing on the draft master plan at 7 pm on Wednesday, February 6, 2008.  The hearing will be held in the City Council chambers at City Hall, One South Huron Street.  Comments may be submitted in writing on forms available with the drafts, may be submitted by e-mail to Richard Murphy (rmurphy@cityofypsilanti.com) in the Planning & Development Department, or may be made in person at the February 6 meeting.

Copies of the draft master plan are currently available for public review at the following locations:
  • Ypsilanti City Hall: City Clerk's office (first floor)
  • Ypsilanti Senior Center, 1015 N. Congress
  • Parkridge Community Center, 591 Armstrong
  • Downtown branch Ypsilanti Public Library: ask at the Reference Desk
  • Eastern Michigan University Halle Library: "on reserve", ask at the Circulation Desk
Informational presentations will be made at the Planning Commission meeting on January 16th and at the City Council meeting on January 17th.  These presentations will discuss the purpose of the planning process, the remaining review steps, and a brief overview of the plan contents.
