Radon Testing

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas formed by the breakdown of uranium. Radon is tasteless, colorless, and odorless, and is found in many types of soil and rocks. It can enter homes through cracks in foundations, sump pump crocks, crawl spaces, or other openings.

Radon is present in outdoor air, but is diluted to such low levels that it is usually not a concern. However, inside an enclosed space (such as a home), radon can build up to dangerous levels. Any home can have a radon problem - new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. The only way to know your home's radon level is to test!

Radon Test Kits

Order a radon kit online

Order a do-it-yourself radon kit online for $12.95 to be shipped to your home. These are the same type of kits distributed at our office. Laboratory analysis and shipping are included in the price. Order here: https://mi.radon.com

You do not have to be a City resident to purchase a kit, and you can use the kit to test a home that is not in the City of Ypsilanti. Test kits are normally $10 each, but are being offered for $5 during January in recognition of Radon Action Month

Radon test results:

You will receive results from the do-it-yourself radon test kits distributed by the above offices in about 10 days to two weeks. You can visit www.radon.com to look up your results if you have the test kit’s serial number. We cannot guarantee results in a specific period of time.

If you need radon test results quickly because you are buying or selling a home and the closing date is near, please hire a private company to use a continuous radon monitor (CRM) to test. These computerized devices can usually provide preliminary results in a little over 48 hours.
