Enjoy fall on the Huron River at Ypsi Fall River Day at Frog Island Park, Sunday, September 25th, Noon-3 PM. Free kayak trips and family-friendly activities will include an educational program on river wildlife. Ypsi Fall River Day is hosted by the City of Ypsilanti Parks & Recreation Commission.
Paddle the river as it winds through Ypsilanti into Ford Lake—perfect for beginner and experienced kayakers alike—single and two-person kayaks and transportation provided at no cost. Launch from Frog Island Park anytime between 12-3 PM. Catch the shuttle back to the park from a designated downstream takeout on the hour until 4 PM. Walk-up registration only. A limited number of kayaks are available first come, first served.
There will be a “Hunters of the Sky” presentation from the Leslie Science & Nature Center at 1pm and an educational program on river wildlife by the Huron Clinton Metroparks Mobile Learning Center. Other exhibitors include the Huron River Watershed Council, Fowling Warehouse Ypsi Ann Arbor, the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative/Border to Border Trail, Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation, the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner's Office, the Ypsilanti District Library, and the Ypsilanti Township Recreation Department.
Frog Island Park is on the Huron River just north of Riverside Park, between Cross Street and Forest Avenue. It is connected to Riverside Park via the "tridge," a three-pointed bridge at the park's south end. The address is 699 Rice Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Washtenaw County’s Border to Border Trail (B2B Trail), a 35-mile, 10-foot wide, ADA accessible, paved pathway, makes its way through Frog Island Park.
For more information about the program schedule and paddle trips, see the Ypsilanti Parks & Recreation Commission web page at www.cityofypsilanti.com/303 or www.facebook.com/ypsilantiparksandrec.
The Huron River is a designated National Water Trail. The Ypsi Fall River Day paddle trips celebrate the river and Ypsilanti as one of five Trail Towns on the Water Trail. Ypsi Fall River Day is hosted by the City of Ypsilanti Parks and Recreation with funding from mParks Michigan Recreation and Park Association,  and support from the City of Ypsilanti and the Huron River Watershed Council.
