City of Ypsilanti Emergency Status Closes
On March 12, I put the City of Ypsilanti on Emergency Status due to the Covid 19 pandemic. This was a strong and important step that we took to protect our residents and be prepared to take any and all necessary steps for the health and safety of our city.
Governor Whitmer has ended the Stay Home Stay Safe rules and is starting to move Michigan towards opening up in a safe and careful manner.
It is time for the State of Emergency to end here in our city. This is not a signal that the pandemic is over. We are moving into a new phase and I think we are all going to be relieved somewhat as things start to move (slowly) towards a healthy and socially comfortable society.
At this time, the pandemic is still very serious. Our community suffered deeply from it, being impacted more severely than other parts of Washtenaw County. We are still working to contain it but are have more information and tools available. We know more about the virus, how it is communicated, and how it can be treated.
We must still be careful. Follow the Governors rules about social distancing, social and work gatherings, wear your PPEs and be careful about distance with people outside your household.
Be safe and healthy!
