One of the guiding values of the Master Plan is “Ypsilanti is sustainable.” To help make Ypsilanti more sustainable, the drafted Master Plan Update recommends decreasing the community’s emissions by 171,310 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2030 as a priority goal. To carry out this goal, the City might consider a number of policy recommendations, including but not limited to the following: creating a green rental certification program to encourage energy-efficient improvements; continuing to pursue policies and projects that improve nonmotorized transportation; continuing to participate in local, regional, national, and international efforts for climate mitigation and adaptation; and promoting incentives, grants, and programs that encourage energy efficiency and renewable energy to property owners.
