A public hearing will be held by City Council on September 14, 2021 to receive comments on the following:

Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment:
 Permissible uses and dimensional modifications for residential zones

City Council will consider proposed amendments to the text of the zoning ordinance (Ypsilanti City Code Chapter 122). Planning Commission recommended City Council adopt the proposed amendments at their August 18, 2021 meeting. The proposed amendments would: (1) Permit accessory dwelling units as accessory uses in all residential zoning districts, and allow the highest point of the accessory structure to match, but not exceed, the highest point of the principal building. (2) Decrease the minimum lot size in R1 zoning districts to 3,000 square feet, decrease the minimum lot size for house building types to 3,000 square feet, and decrease the minimum lot size for cottage building types to 2,000 square feet. (3) Decrease the minimum lot width in R1 zoning districts and for house building types to 30 feet. (4) Permit single-family attached dwellings and two-family dwellings on corner lots as principal permitted uses in all residential zoning districts and specify dimensional requirements, such as a minimum lot frontage requirement for each street.

The City invites all interested persons to attend this meeting or to send written comments to the City of Ypsilanti, Community & Economic Development Department, One South Huron Street, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197.  The City of Ypsilanti will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired, Limited English Proficiency (LEP) services, and audios of printed materials being considered at the meeting.   Individuals requiring auxiliary aids or services should provide two (2) days’ notice to the City, and contact the City by writing the City Clerk's Office, One South Huron Street, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197; or by calling the Clerk’s Office at (734) 483-1100.
