New City Manager


As of January 23rd, 2024, Andrew Hellenga is now the new City Manager of the City of Ypsilanti.

Mr. Hellenga has served as the Interim City Manager since August of 2023. Before stepping into the Interim City Manager role, he held the positions of City Clerk, Deputy City Clerk, and Downtown Development Coordinator for the City of Ypsilanti. We're grateful for his commitment to our community.

Mr. Patrick McLean is now an appointed member of the Ypsilanti City Council, representing Ward 2.

Mr. McLean has lived in our community for over twenty years and looks forward to serving on the council.

NOTICE OF REGISTRATION FOR THE 

ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY

FEBRUARY 27, 2024


PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: that any qualified elector of the City of Ypsilanti who is not already registered, may register to vote at the office of the City Clerk, the office of the County Clerk, a Secretary of State branch office, or other designated state agency. Registration forms can be obtained at mi.gov/vote and mailed to the City of Ypsilanti. Voters who are already registered may update their registration at Express SOS. 

The last day to register in any manner other than in-person with the local clerk is Monday, February 12, 2024.

After this date, anyone who qualifies as an elector may register to vote in person with proof of residency (MCL 168.492) at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 1 South Huron, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 at the following times:

  • Regular business hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Election Day, Tuesday, February 27, 2023, from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm

Early Voting is in effect starting with the February 27, 2024 Presidential Primary!


In 2024, Michigan voters will be asked to cast their ballots during 3 major elections. For the first time ever this February, all voters will be given the opportunity to cast their ballot early in-person for 9 full days prior to each major election.

Early Voting sites will be operating across the county to accommodate those voters who wish to cast and have their ballot counted in-person before Election Day. The City of Ypsilanti is partnering with the Washtenaw County Clerk’s office to provide early voting services.


City of Ypsilanti voters may visit either of the two Early Voting sites below from February 17-February 25 between 9:00 am-5:00 pm to cast their vote prior to the February 27, 2024, Presidential Primary:

  •  Ypsilanti Freighthouse, 100 Market Place, Ypsilanti, MI, 48198
  • Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center, 4135 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI, 48108

Riverside Arts Center Corner


On the first and third Wednesday of every month, artists can bring two pieces of original art to present. Artists, art lovers, collectors, curators – everyone is welcome from Ypsi and beyond! Attendees are not required to present. Anyone is welcome to simply gather with our community and enjoy the incredible artwork. Presentations occur on a first-come first-served basis. The Air Conditioner Assistance Program waitlist will open again on 2/20/24


On Tuesday, 2/20/2024, at 12:00 PM, a link to the waitlist application will be added to the Washtenaw County Office of Community & Economic Development website at the link below. On that day, you can add your name to the waitlist by clicking on the link or calling their office at 734-544-3008 during that time. The waitlist can fill up quickly, and they only have a few spots on our waitlist. 


This program offers central air conditioner installations for eligible residents. Work provided through this program is based on the following prioritization criteria, in no particular order:

-Documented medical need-Applicants must provide a doctor's note that indicates that a resident's health would benefit from the installation of a central air conditioner.

-Age of applicant and other household members

SummerWorks seeks Washtenaw County employers, mentors to invest in future workforce


Washtenaw County’s summer youth employment program seeks local employers and professionals to provide paid internships and mentorship to teens and young adults. Since 2016, SummerWorks has offered 10-week paid summer internships to adults aged 16 to 24 who live in Washtenaw County. In the past, the summer youth employment program has facilitated about 80 internship placements each year, and this year, the program aims to grow to 130 internship placements.

The deadline to apply to host an intern is March 17th. The deadline to apply as a young adult for an internship is March 24th.

Daytime and overnight shelter is available in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti

Winter daytime and overnight shelter accommodations are available throughout the winter shelter season from November 13th, 2023 – March 31st, 2024 for any individual seeking emergency shelter during the cold winter months.

The daytime shelter is available Monday – Thursday, 8 AM – 6 PM, at the Ypsilanti Freighthouse. For a complete list of daytime warming shelter locations, please visit bit.ly/washtenaw-warming.

If you are looking for overnight shelter, please call the Delonis Center at (734) 662-2829 for location information and transportation accommodations. For a referral to the Delonis Center, please call Housing Access for Washtenaw County (HAWC) at (734) 961-1999.

At the Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), Washtenaw County residents can get FREE financial counseling services. Services are open to anyone, and professionally trained counselors are ready to help you with managing finances, paying down debt, increasing savings, establishing and building credit, and accessing banking products.
