EMU FootballDear Fellow Community Members, On Saturday, September 14th, at 7:00 P.M., our Eastern Michigan University Football team kicks off an exciting new season on the new Maxx Crosby Field inside Rynearson Stadium. All season long, we invite you to join in the family-friendly festivities that make a game day in Ypsilanti so special. Experience the excitement for fans of all ages, beginning with Eagle Walk two hours and fifteen minutes before kickoff, to fan engaging activities ranging from photos with our live bald eagle mascot, cheerleaders and dance team members to the interactive inflatable games inside our kids zone. Don't let your taste buds down either, visit one of the local food trucks inside the stadium or enjoy a piping hot slice of Little Caesar's pizza. Then sit back and enjoy one of the largest video boards the Mid-American Conference has to offer, as we entertain the crowd with fun crowd cams and stories of our student-athletes, former EMU Legends and great accomplishments by EMU professors and local community members. And finally, listen to the sounds of the Pride of the Peninsula as the EMU Marching Band takes the field for pre-game, halftime and post-game shows. As you can see, game day in The Factory is full of excitement for the entire family! Single game tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased online starting at just $15. For more information or a full schedule visit EMUEagles.com to purchase your tickets today. Also as a reminder, game day inside Rynearson Stadium includes pyrotechnics at certain points of the game as well as a cannon operated by EMU ROTC students and staff. Both of these elements are traditional elements that have been used throughout the years and carry sound that can be heard outside the stadium. This season, we have placed strong time limits on the use of these elements, so as not to impact the lives of our local neighbors. This includes restricting their use past certain times in the evening and after a score reaches a certain threshold. We take our commitment to being a good neighborhood partner seriously and hope that this will bring a more enjoyable experience to everyone. Happy game week to all of our community neighbors, and we hope to see you at a game this fall!

For those unable to attend the in-person event or would prefer to walk at their leisure, purchase a digital route map by emailing Stefan Szumko at slugwhisperer@gmail.com and pay $5 via Venmo or PayPal.

Michigan Avenue is…. Back on the Block! Finally, the Michigan Avenue library’s reconstruction is nearing completion, so the postponed welcome-back celebration is back on! Join us Saturday, October 12 from 11-4 for a ribbon cutting, live music, light refreshments, and fun for all ages. Watch for a detailed schedule of events at ypsilibrary.org as plans are firmed up! Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along the Underground Railroad Check out the new exhibit at YDL-Whittaker from Sept. 1 - Oct. 20. Many books have been written on the subject, but there is very little visual documentation of the Underground Railroad because of its secretive nature. Photographer Jeanine Michna-Bales, using a decade of research into the way “fugitive” slaves escaped to freedom, took photographs that encompass roughly 2,000 miles based on actual sites, cities, and places along the Underground railroad. The stunning photographs help visitors imagine what the long road to freedom may have looked like as seen through the eyes of the ones who made this epic journey. Friends of YDL Fall Book Sale The Friends of YDL Book Sale is coming again this September! Mark your calendars for Sept. 19-21 at Whittaker Road. Sept. 19 from 6-8pm will be a members-only preview sale. Sept. 19: 6-8pm (members-only sale) Sept. 20: 11am-5pm Sept. 21: 11am-3pm Sept. 22: 1-4pm Get the full schedules at ypsilibrary.org/events.
