Bulk Trash Pickup Rules

Pick-up for all bulk items  takes place on Fridays, and will need to be scheduled in advance by contacting Stevens Disposal by email at bulk@stevensdisposal.com or calling 734-279-2611.


One bulk item per week is free. Additional items in the same week incur a cost of $20. 


Bulk Collection Guidelines

The following are guidelines to ensure your bulk items set out for collection allow the Stevens teams to service them and meet your expectations. Adherence to these guidelines will ensure your bulk items are collected when set out.

  1.  All items should be set out neatly to ensure the collection team are not injured. i.e., set evenly, not stacked higher than five (5) feet, all small items in trash containers, no cardboard boxes full of items, (boxes are not an acceptable container). 
  2. Lumber/wood must have nails & screws removed, must be no more than four (4) foot in length and bundled with twine or tape in bundles no more than two (2) feet in diameter. Construction debris may instead be taken to the Recycle Ann Arbor Recovery Yard for re-use or recycling. 
  3. Assembled wood cabinets/furniture must be unassembled/broken down and stacked as individual pieces..
  4. Tile, shingles, wallboard etc. should be in trash containers with handles and weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds.
  5.  Toilets should have the tank and bowl in two (2) separate pieces unless it is a one-piece unit.
  6.  Basketball poles must be no more than Four (4) feet in length with sand or water removed from the base.
  7.  Carpet and padding must be rolled and bound by tape or twine, no more than four (4) feet in length and two (2) feet in diameter. (use of bulk tags for collection is one tag per 3 bundles)
  8.  Windows, mirrors and doors, Glass must be removed and put in small cardboard box taped shut and labeled as broken glass.
  9.  Paint must be opened and poured into kitty litter and dried, cans should have lids off and dry. 
  10.  White goods (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units and dehumidifiers must have freon removed and certified tagged by HVAC company. Refrigerators and freezers must also have their doors removed. 
  11.  Push lawn mowers and gas grills must have gas tanks removed and oil removed.
  12.  All mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic and taped shut, or in a industry plastic bed bug bag. Bags are available at most hardware stores as well as Lowes, Home Depot & Menards. 

 Uncollectable items for Bulk Collection:

  1. Tree limbs and brush should be set out with yard waste, cut no more than four (4) feet in length and bundled by tape or twine no more than two (2) feet in diameter.
  2. Concrete, brick, blocks, asphalt, dirt and stone.  Construction debris may instead be taken to the Recycle Ann Arbor Recovery Yard for re-use or recycling. 
  3. Tires, wheels, brake rotors and drums, metal or steel automotive parts including seats.
  4. Oils, stain & solvents are not allowed. They are considered hazardous waste.
  5. No propane or helium tanks/cylinders. 
  6. ***Bags of trash are not accepted as bulk***
