Snowplow Naming Contest

The City of Ypsilanti is inviting the community to help name our fleet of snowplows! Send us the most creative, fun, and Ypsi-tastic names you can think of, and our team of snowplow drivers will have the pleasure of picking the best names for their rides.

The 2026 Naming Contest will be the first one held in the City of Ypsilanti. We look forward to seeing how this contest can grow in the future, but this year, we are focused on bringing some laughter and fun for our residents and for our Department of Public Works staff. When winter sets in, crews from DPW work long hours to keep our roads clear, and they are looking forward to seeing all the names our residents can come up with!

How to participate

Simply click the link below to fill out the form and submit up to six names for consideration. Remember to be creative, have fun, and carefully read the rules at the top of the submission form:

Congrats to our 2026 winners!

We received over 300 name submissions from 226 community members. The team at Department of Public Works has voted on their six favorites which will now be used to name the city’s six plows.

If a name was submitted more than once, the first person who sent it in is credited.

The winners are:

  1. Mr. Plow - sent in first by Jeremiah McEwen
  2. The Saltinator - sent by Morgan Wilson
  3. CTRL – SALT – DELETE – sent in first by Kelly McG
  4. Big LePlowski – sent in first by Katie Kwiatkowski

The winners got a special shoutout on the City of Ypsilanti Facebook and the City of Ypsilanti Instagram!

Timeline

  • Feb. 6 – Feb. 13: The community submits snowplow names with this form. The form closes at 5 p.m. on Feb. 13th, 2026.
  • Feb. 16 – Feb. 18: DPW staff will be presented with the names and will decide the winners.
  • Feb. 20: The top six names will be announced.

Rules

  • Names should be limited to 25-characters or less.
  • Keep submissions appropriate and family oriented. Any names that involve profanities, slurs, or inappropriate language will not be considered.
  • The winning names will be announced publicly. By submitting an entry, you understand that your entry may be shared on the city's social media and website.
  • We will honor those who submitted the winning names during the official announcement. Those who do not wish to be named may write “anonymous” on their form.
