City of Ypsilanti Recognized by the National Park Service for Certified Local Government Participation
Ypsilanti, MI, August 15, 2017: The City of Ypsilanti has received recognition from the National Park Service for its participation in the Certified Local Government Program.
Ypsilanti is one of thirty local governments that take part in the Certified Local Government (CLG) Program in the State of Michigan and one of less than two thousand nationwide. The CLG Program is a partnership between local, state and national governments focused on promoting historic preservation at the local level. The program provides local governments that participate in the CLG Program access to grant funds for preservation activities. This federal preservation program is administered by the National Park Service and locally by the State Historic Preservation Office in Michigan.
In order to become a CLG the City of Ypsilanti had to meet certain criteria, such as having a local historic preservation ordinance and an established Historic District Commission, and apply for the CLG program. The City of Ypsilanti has been a Certified Local Government since 2002 and has received CLG grant funds in previous years.
