Double Trash week means each residence is allowed to set out on their regular pick up day, double the usual limit.  Bulk items cannot weigh more than 100 pounds each.  Trash cans cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each.   Trash and bulk items need to be set out no later than 7 AM on the regular pickup day. All trash other than bulk items must be in cans or bags.

  • Single family home - 6 trash cans or bags, 32 gallons or smaller, and 2 bulk items
  • 2 unit dwelling - 12 trash cans or bags, 32 gallons or smaller, and 4 bulk items
  • 3 unit dwelling - 18 trash cans or bags, 32 gallons or smaller, and 6 bulk items.

3 unit maximum

If residents want to set out more bulk items or trash cans than listed above, they will need to purchase additional bulk item or trash labels from City Hall or the Department of Public Works (DPW).  Any items that contain Freon or refrigerant must have a label that can be purchased at City Hall or the Department of Public Works.

DPW is located at 14 West Forest, Ypsilanti 48197.  The hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM until 4 PM.  Tel: 734-483-1421. Appointment is required.

Please be sure the labels face the street.

Any additional bulk items or cans above the limits, or contain Freon, that do not have the labels will be rejected and subject to fines.
