HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION IS SEEKING Members
The purpose of the Human Relations Commission (HRC) is to act as an advisory body to the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager for all things involving discrimination in the City of Ypsilanti. The Human Relations Commission supports efforts to enhance mutual understanding among the City's culturally diverse residents. The term length for Regular Commissioners is 3 years and 1 year for Youth Members.

RESIDENT COMPLAINTS A resident may obtain a resident complaint form from the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, or by following the link below. After the complaint form is received by the Clerk's Office, the complaint will be brought to the attention of the City Manager’s office, who will assign an investigator to gather all the facts. Once the investigator has filed a report, it will be carefully reviewed, and a final disposition will be made. A representative of the City Manager’s office will notify you as to the final disposition of your complaint, usually within a period of thirty (30) days.

Discrimination Ordinance
Chapter 58
The Human Relations Commission is the keeper of the Nondiscrimination Ordinance. If an individual feels they have been discriminated against based on race, color, religion, national origin, immigration status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, disability status, familial status, educational association, source of income, height or weight, felony or misdemeanor conviction they may file a written complaint with the City Attorney. The complaint will need include the details of the discriminatory practice and the name and address of the person or entity alleged to have committed the complaint.
Upon filing of the complaint, a true copy of the complaint it will be served within ten days by certified mail to the person or entity the complaint is filed against. If the person or entity does not comply with requests for documentation the City Attorney may file with the Circuit Court for an order to produce the documentation. If the complaint is unfounded, it will be dismissed, if probable cause has been determined, and both parties agree, it may be submitted to the Human Relations Commission to mediate.
